Downtown Medford came alive on Mother's Day weekend with the color, creativity, and community spirit that only Art in Bloom can bring. After a five-year hiatus, the beloved springtime festival returned for its 20th anniversary, transforming Lithia Commons and surrounding streets into a lively showcase of local art, music, horticulture, and handmade treasures. More than 60 vendors filled the festival grounds, and I was honored to be one of them—my very first year at Art in Bloom with JoySilk. 🌸
Captured on Camera at Art in Bloom: JoySilk's Debut
One of the best surprises of the weekend? I was interviewed by KDRV NewsWatch 12, which aired the segment several times! In the interview, I shared how meaningful it felt to return to in-person events after the long quiet stretch of the pandemic:

“...I thought this would be a great way to get out, meet people, and take the pulse of the community.”
The return of Art in Bloom was more than just a festival—it felt like a reawakening. Families gathered for chalk art and lemonade, children dancing on stage, DJ and live music, and people of all ages wandered between booths filled with florals, fine crafts, and local flavor.
It was a joyful reminder: Spring is not just a season—it's a state of heart.
Wearable Art that Connects Us All
As a silk artist who has been painting by hand for over 30 years, I was thrilled to showcase my one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces—each infused with movement, light, and color. My booth featured:
Hand painted silk ruanas and shawls
Lightweight wearable art silk wraps for spring evenings
Silk coverlets that double as statement home decor
“I love what I do. I love color and light on silk,” I told Samantha Kadera of NewsWatch 12.“Making special wearable art accessories brings a lot of joy to a lot of people.”
And it truly did. Assisting people try on and style before choosing their new favorite wrap was so much fun, watching a caring son help their mom choose a scarf as a gift for Mother’s Day was incredibly moving. It reminded me why I started JoySilk in the first place: to bring joy, beauty and light, softness, and a sense of self-expression to people’s lives.
